Monalisa is an energetic counselor with a passion to contribute to individuals Growth while becoming their True Self and evolving into the best person they choose to be. She has experience working with clients in community-based, office, and adult criminal justice system settings. Monalisa’s background involves working with clients on difficulties related to depression, anxiety, autism, mood dysregulation, high conflict, PTSD (including sexual, emotional, and physical abuse), substance abuse, impulsivity, self-harm, psychosis and schizophrenia. In addition, she enjoys consulting with parents and educators to promote wellness for children and students in home and school settings.
Monalisa believes clients are responsible for their own behaviors, thoughts, and feelings, and have the ability to choose how to resolve their own problems through their decision-making ability with her assistance as a facilitator. Therefore, clients are viewed as the expert of their own lives. As a counselor, Monalisa hopes to facilitate for clients development of greater self-awareness through their life experiences that lead to increased confidence, self-esteem, independence, mental health, and the capacity to effectively navigate the complex challenges of life. Counseling approaches and techniques which may be utilized at any given time to meet a client’s specific needs include family systems, cognitive behavioral, reality (choice theory), and play therapy. Services are always client-centered and collaborative, with goal setting being a team effort.
Monalisa is a Licensed Professional Counselor approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Licensed Professional Counselors, Lic. No. 76352. She earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Marriage, Couples, and Families from CACREP accredited program at Sam Houston State University. Additionally, she was awarded with Honors (Chi Sigma Iota). She completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Houston - Main campus, which she graduated Cum Laude. She is certified in Mental Health First Aid, CPR, and SASSI. Monalisa is in good standing with Texas Counseling Association and Houston Counseling Association (currently serving on Board as Secretary-Elect).
Monalisa chose to become a counselor to witness change amongst humanity one person, couple, and family at a time. Her passion is to live with a purpose… A purpose greater than herself. She is dedicated to humanity and holistic fulfillment, and has spent time volunteering in a domestic violence shelter, Big Brother Big Sisters of America, a retirement home, and with disaster and humanitarian relief in Houston. In her free time, she enjoys family time, socializing, traveling, meditation, and fishing.
